Education in America 2020 and Beyond

From THE BUSINES INSIDER

The US was once a leader for healthcare and education — now it ranks 27th in the world
by Aria Bendix

US investments in healthcare and education haven't changed much in the last three decades — and it's putting the country far behind its peers, according to a new study from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington.

After ranking countries based on their levels of education and health, the study found that the US ranked 27th in the world on these metrics as of 2016, behind a host of top-ranking Nordic countries, including Finland, Iceland, Denmark, and the Netherlands.

This comes as little surprise, given that healthcare services in these countries are universal and publicly funded. The US, by contrast, is one of the few developed nations that lacks universal healthcare, according to The Atlantic.

When it comes to education, the nation fares even worse. The latest findings from the Pew Research Center have the US in 38th place out of 71 countries when it comes to math scores and 24th place when it comes to science.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the study is just how far the US has fallen in the rankings. In 1990, the US ranked sixth in the world for its levels of education and health — 21 spots ahead of where it is now.

PEW RESEARCH CENTER....How do U.S. students compare with their peers around the world? Recently released data from international math and science assessments indicate that U.S. students continue to rank around the middle of the pack, and behind many other advanced industrial nations.

One of the biggest cross-national tests is the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which every three years measures reading ability, math and science literacy and other key skills among 15-year-olds in dozens of developed and developing countries. The most recent PISA results, from 2015, placed the U.S. an unimpressive 38th out of 71 countries in math and 24th in science. Among the 35 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which sponsors the PISA initiative, the U.S. ranked 30th in math and 19th in science.

Younger American students fare somewhat better on a similar cross-national assessment, the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study. That study, known as TIMSS, has tested students in grades four and eight every four years since 1995. In the most recent tests, from 2015, 10 countries (out of 48 total) had statistically higher average fourth-grade math scores than the U.S., while seven countries had higher average science scores. In the eighth-grade tests, seven out of 37 countries had statistically higher average math scores than the U.S., and seven had higher science scores.

QUESTION:  Do you think 80% of Americans care about this for the future of their children and the future of this country?

More Than Likely...

President Elect Biden WILL...

become more popular than Jesus Christ and will smile his way past all the laws as he makes sure no Republicans will enter heaven...

REDO EVERYTHING THAT TRUMP has DONE or UNDONE regardless of whether or not it was a good idea or not but simply because the DEMOCRATS want to ERASE as much as possible of Trump's legacy...  and, while that may seem incredibly logical, it may or may not be SMART...

One must always remember that President Trump appealed to a large segment of the population that has for a long time been overlooked...  and, once they got a shot at recognition, I highly doubt that desire will soon go away...

One must also remember that Republican Senators are highly pissed off at what the Democrats did to Trump for 4 years and will not give up their anger that easily; although, they may be more inclined to work with Biden that they would have with anyone else.

What does all of that mean?

It means that for the most part, middle class America and the lower classes will be getting more and that more will be coming from the wealthy.

It means that Business and Industry will no longer be getting tax breaks and no one really knows what will happen until it happens but there might not be as many people employed and/or there could be an increase in prices.  However, it is doubtful that these increases in taxes will cause INFLATION unless they continue to increase up and up.

It means that Blacks will be given more of everything but not Hispanics, Non-Hispanic Whites, Latinos, or Asians.

It means our police departments will be trained not to shoot to kill criminals that are Black and that they will try to talk reasonably to a Black when they are under the influence of the White Man.

It means that Black people will receive special care and consideration and counseling to encourage them to stop selling drugs and entering a life of crime.

It means everyone who wants to go to college, even if they made "C's" and "D's" in high school will be allowed to matriculate FREE OF CHARGE even though there will be no guarantees of employment after graduation.

It means that immigrants will be allowed to enter this country in whatever numbers they can muster and that no one will turn them away and once they are on the inside of the USA, they will receive INSTANT and FREE Medical Care.

It means that America will go GREEN and will STOP using gasoline in our cars as quick as possible...  that homes will be required to install solar panels and not mow their lawns with gasoline mowers...  even though that will take a few years to roll out...  it is coming.

It means America's Military will reduce in size and budget and the USA will resume paying everyone's bills so that they can financially become stronger and like us better than Russia and China.

It means that we will continue fighting these endless wars because we made a promise even though the ARABS want us to mind our own businesses...  But, more and more the wars will be fought in meetings rooms for negotiations and not on the battlefield...

It means that our NATIONAL DEBT will continue to increase and some other President and administration and future general public will eventually have to pay for it...  but...  NOT NOW.

It means that America will FINALLY become ASSHOLE BUDDIES with CHINA, allowing them to take and do whatever because we wear each other's friendship bracelet, and eventually the courtship will include more but for now, we just want to continue teasing each other a little bit.

It means that more and more companies will be leaving California and probably moving to Texas where the taxes on businesses are less...  and, quite possibly this will happen in NYC as well, even though there are not a lot of those kinds of businesses.

Our Greatest Risk

Black Market USA

Landfills, “Star Wars,” abstinence and breakfast cereal — just a few of the numbers the website Statistic Brain tracks.

There’s also a tally on the value of black markets. Overall, Statistic Brain says there is about $625 billion of illicit trade in the U.S. every year, and 1.8 billion jobs are created by the black market globally.

Product counterfeiting tops out as one of the most lucrative categories, at a U.S. market value of $225 billion.

Average U.S. Street Value for Illicit Items:
  • AK-47 -- $400
  • Cocaine -- $174.2 per gram
  • Ecstasy -- $35 per tablet
  • Heroin -- $200 per gram
  • Marijuana -- $20 – $1,800 per ounce
  • Meth -- $3 – $500 per gram
The "unreported economy" consists of those economic activities that circumvent or evade the institutionally established fiscal rules as codified in the tax code. A summary measure of the unreported economy is the amount of income that should be reported to the tax authority but is not so reported. A complementary measure of the unreported economy is the "tax gap", namely the difference between the amount of tax revenues due the fiscal authority and the amount of tax revenue actually collected. In the U.S. unreported income is estimated to be $2 trillion resulting in a "tax gap" of $450–$600 billion.

COMMENT:  It seems that our beloved country, the USA, is involved in a lot of nasty shit internally...  and, what is most surprising is the fact that MANY AMERICANS are the ones that are buying these items on the BLACK MARKET...

Why is that do you think?
Why are they spending so much money?
Where did they get this money?
How many Americans are criminals?

It does not bother me at all that our national government is losing all this tax revenues nor does it bother me at all that this Black Market exists because I used it a time or two when in high school, but what bothers me is why all these Americans think that they need to take illegal drugs to make themselves feel better...  when illegal drugs has never been the answer or the cure for what one is feeling or what one is missing on the inside...

And...  all the pain and suffering that drug addicts experience when using when one finally changes one's mental attitude and develops a new philosophy as to what is important in life and what is not...

And...  hopefully all we see that neither drugs nor money actually brings one happiness only a false senses of securities...  and waisted energy when trying to control not just other people but the whole of life around us...

Only About Americans

According to US NEWS & WORLD REPORT...

Americans Spent $146 Billion on Illegal Drugs in 2016

PEOPLE IN THE U.S. spent between $121 billion and $146 billion per year on cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine from 2006 to 2016, according to a new analysis from the nonprofit RAND Corporation.

Pulling from multiple data sources, the report estimates the number of illicit drug users in the U.S., how regularly they took drugs and how much they spent to get high. The drug on which people spent the most changed over the years: In 2006, people spent the most on cocaine and the least on marijuana, but by 2016, that had reversed, researchers found. Annual spending on heroin, meanwhile, surged an estimated $12 billion in that time frame, while meth spending rose by $5 billion.

The findings help frame the nation's drug crisis beyond opioid overdose deaths. While prescription painkillers, heroin and illicit fentanyl have received much public attention and resources in recent years, deaths from meth and cocaine also have crept up, and health experts say the response from policymakers and public health agencies should shift to match the country's evolving drug use landscape.

"Obviously, we need to continue to pay really close attention to and come up with a solution to the different forms of the opioid crisis, but that doesn't mean that we can ignore methamphetamine and cocaine," says Greg Midgette, an assistant professor of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Maryland and the study's lead author.

NOTE:  while this report published in 2018 is about 2016, one can only logically ascertain, that US illegal drug usage has increased.

WHY ARE SO MANY AMERICANS

DRUG ADDICTS?

Black Markets

A black market, underground economy or shadow economy, is a clandestine market or series of transactions that has some aspect of illegality or is characterized by some form of noncompliant behavior with an institutional set of rules. If the rule defines the set of goods and services whose production and distribution is prohibited by law, non-compliance with the rule constitutes a black market trade since the transaction itself is illegal. Parties engaging in the production or distribution of prohibited goods and services are members of the illegal economy. Examples include the drug trade, prostitution (where prohibited), illegal currency transactions and human trafficking. Violations of the tax code involving income tax evasion constitute membership in the unreported economy.

AGAIN...  no taxes paid...

The shadow economy drives out legitimate industries that can't compete with the lower costs of illegal operations. Some black market players deliberately create shortages in legal goods to force people to purchase from them. The tax-free nature of the black market means the government loses revenue.

AGAIN...  our government loses revenue...

EXAMPLES...
  • Illegal drug trade
  • Prostitution
  • Human Trafficking
  • Illegal currency transactions
  • Forced Labor
  • Personal Information
  • Illegal Weapons sales
  • Animals and Animal Products
  • Alcohol and Tobacco
  • Biological Organs
  • Racketeering
  • Counterfeit Medicines
  • Copyrighted Media
  • Sex Toys

Remembering...

I remember watching Bob Ross every Saturday morning on PBS in North Carolina and it was an adventure that I tried not to miss unless I absolutely had to.

Ross painted with OILS not ACRYLICS and his techniques was WET ON WET with the understanding that the thickest layer is always first, and the oils are thinned out as one paints on top of what is already there...  allowing the paint to stick and form the illusions of shadows and depths of fields.

Ross started painting when he was in the Navy in Alaska as when his 8 hour shift was over there was really nothing else for him to do...  and so, he always requested the positing of Alaska since other sailors avoided it because of all the isolation.

Ross eventually died of cancer much younger than he should have because he inhaled the toxic fumes of the chemicals he used as paint thinners.

His technique is a valid one and has been taught to many people and his son used to carry on his painting legacy but I do not know if he continues the practice or not.

I have at least 3 tapes of Bob Ross that I taped off of PBS as a VHS recording but I no longer have the VHS machine so my watching Bob Ross days are over...  unless I find a YOUTube video...

Was he a genius...  probably not...  but, he was very clever in his painting methodology and after several years of applying his own techniques, he became pretty damned good...

For me...  Bob Ross will always be remembered...
