When warm weather hits, I used to get my 1967 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible, put down the top, drive out to the INTERSTATE,  and put my foot to the peddle and hold on...  But...  I can do that no more because a few years ago, I found myself in a financial situation where I had to sell my baby after owning it for 30 years...

UNFORTUNATELY...
If the liberal progressive Democrats have their way...  there will be no more gasoline powered vehicles...

AND...
those top ten car shows listed at the beginning will never again take place....

What brought this to my attention this morning other than the weather was watching the Cable program COUNTING CARS...  On this episode, the COUNT and his team visited the SEMA car show because they had two of their costumed designed cars on display...  SEMA is considered to be one of the top car shows in America.

If we GO GREEN....   kiss the shows and cars goodbye...

Just The Beginning

Thin Slicing

Blink examines the phenomenon of snap judgments, meaning the split-second decisions we make unconsciously. These snap judgments are important decision-making tools, but can also lead to bad choices and all manner of problems. Blink explains how we can best make use of them.

Gladwell sets himself three tasks: to convince the reader that these snap judgments can be as good or better than reasoned conclusions, to discover where and when rapid cognition proves a poor strategy, and to examine how the rapid cognition's results can be improved.

Blink, a nonfiction work by Malcolm Gladwell, explores the psychology of snap decisions and quick thinking, illuminating how subconscious biases affect the way we think and behave.  Gladwell introduces the idea of “thin slicing”—using little slivers of information about a person to form a larger opinion. He concludes that this method is most effective among strangers and breaks down in intimate relationships, such as marriages.  Gladwell examines how subconscious racial and socioeconomic biases affect how we think about other groups of people and the language we use to describe them.

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Canadian journalist and public speaker Malcolm Gladwell provides a compelling analysis (drawn from scientific studies as well as case histories) of how our “gut-reactions” or “snap judgments” take place, what their consequences (positive or negative) might be, and how our awareness of unconscious thoughts at work can help us to identify, evaluate, and manage our reactions wisely.

Immigration

The United States of America has been based upon the FOUNDATION of immigration.  From the very beginnings and before our Declaration of Independence, immigration from Europe came to THE AMERICAS (North America in particular) for a new life.

The British used colonial North America as a penal colony through a system of indentured servitude. Merchants would transport the convicts and auction them off to plantation owners upon arrival in the colonies. It is estimated that some 50,000 British convicts were sent to colonial America and the majority landed in the Chesapeake Colonies of Maryland and Virginia. Transported convicts represented perhaps one-quarter of all British emigrants during the 18th century. The colony of Georgia, for example, was first founded by James Edward Oglethorpe who originally intended to use prisoners taken largely from debtors' prison, creating a "Debtor's Colony," where the prisoners could learn trades and work off their debts. Even though this largely failed, the idea that the state began as a penal colony has persisted, both in popular history and local lore.
SOURCE:  Wikipedia

It is for this reason that the Northern States have always LOOKED DOWN upon the Southern States...  and, it is unlikely that this animosity will go away anytime soon.  However, the fact remains that immigration is what BUILT AMERICA...

Nowadays,
immigration is either LEGAL or ILLEGAL...

AND...
most Americans are against illegal immigration but not legal immigration.  By letting unregulated immigrants enter this country, we are setting ourselves up for problems down the road typically referred to as UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES.

These consequences could include:
  • reduction in jobs
  • increase health risks
  • increased crime
  • crime infiltration

CHINA: The Economy

Economics  --  Bloomberg News
China’s Growth Beats Estimates as Economy Powers Out of Covid

GDP rose 6.5% in fourth quarter, faster than expected
China could surpass U.S. as largest economy by 2028: Nomura

**********
China’s economy roared back to pre-pandemic growth rates in the fourth quarter as its industrial engines fired up to meet surging demand for exports, pushing the full-year expansion beyond estimates and propelling its global advance.

Gross domestic product climbed 6.5% in the final quarter from a year earlier, pushing growth to 2.3% for the full year. That leaves the world’s second-largest economy driving global growth and potentially passing U.S. GDP sooner than previously expected.

The V-shaped recovery from the biggest slump on record was engineered by getting Covid-19 under control and deploying fiscal and monetary stimulus to boost investment. Growth accelerated as the nation’s factories revved up to meet demand for medical equipment and work-from-home devices in an export bonanza that saw it ship 224 billion masks from March through December -- almost 40 for Cened, as they have elsewhere around the world.

“There’s a huge discrepancy between production and consumption,” said Bo Zhuang, chief China economist at TS Lombard. “I am not very optimistic about domestic demand, as wage growth is not back to pre-pandemic levels.”

The stimulus to support the economy through the pandemic has been accompanied by a surge in debt which authorities are now seeking to curb as the recovery takes hold. At a December meeting to lay out economic goals for 2021, the ruling Communist Party signaled that stimulus would be gradually withdrawn, although it would avoid any “sharp turns” in policy.

Our History

CHINA: PLA Military

The two-million-strong People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is the military arm of the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC’s) ruling Communist Party. The Trump Administration identified strategic competition with China and Russia as “the primary concern in U.S. national security” in 2018 and U.S. defense officials have since said that China is the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DOD’s) top priority.

According to a 2020 DOD report, the PLA has “already achieved parity with—or even exceeded—the United States” in several areas in which it has focused its military modernization efforts and is strengthening its ability to “counter an intervention by an adversary in the Indo-Pacific region and project power globally.” See also CRS In Focus IF11712, U.S.-China Military-to-Military Relations.

PLA Organization
Established in 1927, the PLA predates the founding of the PRC in 1949. The Chinese Communist Party oversees the PLA through the Party’s Central Military Commission, China’s top military decision making body, which is akin to the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Central Military Commission also oversees China’s militia and China’s paramilitary police force, the People’s Armed Police, which includes the China Coast Guard. Xi Jinping, who serves concurrently as Communist Party general secretary and PRC president, has chaired the Central Military Commission since 2012.

The PLA encompasses four services:

  • the PLA Army,
  • PLA Navy,
  • PLA Air Force, and
  • PLA Rocket Force,
  • as well as two sub-service forces,
  • the Strategic Support Force,
  • the Joint Logistics Support Force.

China’s Military Strategy
The stated goal of China’s national defense policy is to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, security, and development interests. The concept of “active defense”— the defining characteristic of China’s military strategy since 1949—prescribes how China can defend these interests and prevail over a militarily superior adversary. Chinese defense writings summarize the general stance of this strategy as “we will not attack unless we are attacked, but we will surely counterattack if we are attacked,” although the strategy does not preclude the use of offensive operations or tactics.

Since 2014, China’s national military strategy (known as the “military strategic guideline”) has been to “win informatized local wars,” reflecting the PRC’s growing emphasis on what it calls “informatization”: the application of advanced information technology across all aspects of warfare. Military strategic guidelines have identified Taiwan (a self-ruled democracy over which the PRC claims sovereignty) as the “operational target” of military preparations since 1993.

China’s defense planners anticipate that a military confrontation over Taiwan could involve “powerful enemy interference,” an apparent reference to the United States. China also has sought military capabilities to dominate its maritime periphery and to support foreign policy and economic initiatives globally.

CHINA: The Enemy

The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the messy divorce between the United States and China.

The Trump administration’s China policy may have drawn criticism from pockets of the political establishment for the drastic choice of method – a bilateral trade war. But its underlying sentiment against China has echoed back in a chorus of bipartisan agreement.

The latest development is Senate passage Wednesday of a bill that, if enacted, could stop some Chinese firms’ shares from trading on US stock exchanges. Non-US companies would be required to observe US audit standards and financial regulations. Publicly traded corporations would have to disclose foreign ownership or control.

The US Department of Commerce had decided just a few days earlier to require semiconductor manufacturers to obtain government approval before selling computer chips to Huawei – an example of the Trump administration’s determination to stop China’s rise to technological dominance.

That move followed a similar pattern of recent administrative actions. The US Labor Department prohibited the federal pension fund from investing in Chinese companies. The Federal Communications Commission barred Huawei and ZTE from access to the US market.

Over the past four years anti-China sentiment in both parties, Democratic and Republican, has grown more vocal and increasingly more confrontational. The Republicans have taken the lead in painting China as the primary threat to America’s way of life. The Democrats, fearful of losing elections, have joined the choir.

Now China hawks have used the opportunity presented by Covid-19 to attack the Chinese government’s image and ramp up the general discontent with China that has now become a core component of American political discourse.  SOURCE:  ASIA Times

COVID Vaccine: Racial Disparities

Early Data Shows Striking Racial Disparities In Who's Getting The COVID-19 Vaccine
 by ARI SHAPIRO

Slightly more than 6% of American adults have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine — but a disproportionately small number of them are Black and Hispanic people.

"What we're seeing from the states that are currently reporting data on vaccination distribution by race and ethnicity is a consistent pattern that is really showing a mismatch between who's receiving the vaccine and who has been hardest hit by the pandemic," says Samantha Artiga, the director of the Racial Equity and Health Policy Program at the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The group has been tracking data from the 17 states that are publicly reporting vaccination patterns by race and ethnicity, and significant disparities are emerging.

In Mississippi, 15% of vaccinations have been received by Black people, while they account for 38% of coronavirus cases and 42% of deaths in the state. In Texas, Hispanic people make up 15% of those who have been vaccinated, compared to 44% of cases and nearly half of the deaths.  TO READ ENTIRE ARTICLE, CLICK HERE...

HELLO...
The vaccine is being giving to AGE GROUPS not RACIAL GROUPS...  and, it would seem rather stupid, to say the least, to make sure just as many blacks were vaccinated as whites if those blacks were not in these age groups...  Democratic STUPIDITY always amazes me...  not so much because they are STUPID but because their STUPIDITY does not allow them to logically think things through...

I am 73 years old and WHITE...  so, should a black person who is 60 years old get the vaccine before me?

I am 73 years old and WHITE and have been fighting two kinds of cancer for over a decade along with a heart attack that left me with heart disease and a non-existent immune system...  so, should a black person who is 65 years old get the vaccine before me?

ONLY 14% of our total population is BLACK...
Of course more whites are going to receive the COVID Vaccine than BLACKS...

We Know These Truths to be Self Evident

Revealing

As reported by Morgan Phillips | Fox News:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined a chorus of New York lawmakers demanding an investigation into Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s handling of nursing homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

The New York Democrat said in a statement: "I support our state’s return to co-equal governance and stand with our local officials calling for a full investigation of the Cuomo administration’s handling of nursing homes during COVID-19. Thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers lost their lives in nursing homes throughout the pandemic. Their loved ones and the public deserve answers and transparency from their elected leadership, and the Secretary to the Governor’s remarks warrant a full investigation."

Meanwhile, Democrats in the state Senate are moving to strip the governor of his unilateral emergency powers during the pandemic, a remarkable intraparty rebuke. The measure could be voted on next week.

CONCERN
:
Had it not been for a TOP AID (photo left) to Cuomo letting the media know that Cuomo had lied, this story would have never surfaced...  and, despite the fact that it has surfaced, the only news media that is really spending time reporting this news has been FOX NEWS...

WHY?

Because all the other networks support the DEMOCRATS and therefore their coverage is BIAS and in favor of the Democrats and not necessarily letting the public know what is really going on...

HOW LONG WILL THIS CONTINUE?

Quantum Computing Concerns

Anthony Cuthbertson of the INDEPENDENT writes:
A new era of unfathomably fast computers is just a few years away, with quantum computers set to transform the way we communicate, cure disease, and even solve problems previously thought impossible.

But some computing experts fear functional quantum computers could also effectively break the internet as we know it.

Recent progress made by Google means their arrival could be sooner than expected. A leaked research paper suggests the company has achieved what is known as quantum supremacy, whereby a quantum computer performed a calculation that was far beyond the reach of today’s most powerful supercomputers.

First theorised by the physicist Richard Feynman in 1982, quantum computers combine the peculiar properties of quantum physics with computer science to achieve processing power that is exponentially more powerful than traditional computers.

Instead of using traditional bits – the ‘1’s’ and ‘0’s’ used to store and transfer data – quantum computers use quantum bits or qubits. These exist in a state of superposition, meaning they can act as both a ‘1’ and a ‘0’ at the same time.

By not being restricted by a single binary state, each new qubit added to a quantum computing system makes it exponentially more powerful than its traditional counterpart.

In order to function, qubits need to be kept in extremely cold temperatures – close to Absolute Zero (-273C). This makes them both impractical and extremely costly to develop, but the potential advances that could be made mean the likes of Google, Nasa and the CIA are all attempting to build one.

If Google’s leaked paper is to be believed, the technology giant may be leading the race to build this revolutionary new form of computer. A calculation that would take a traditional supercomputer approximately 10,000 years to perform, took Google’s 72-qubit computer just 200 seconds.

The paper stated: “This dramatic speed-up relative to all known classical algorithms provides an experimental realization of quantum supremacy on a computational task and heralds the advent of a much-anticipated computing paradigm.”

But such power may come at a huge price. Tim Callan, a senior fellow at cybersecurity firm Sectigo, warns that the advent of these era-defining machines could result in what he refers to as a “quantum apocalypse”.

At threat are the current encryption technologies used in everything from popular messaging apps like WhatsApp, to online banking transactions. These RSA and ECC encryption systems are what prevent all of our data from being exposed to cyber criminals, hackers and spy agencies.

Government, education, business and healthcare data could all be compromised by quantum computers, as they will be orders of magnitude faster than the calculations needed to break this encryption.

“While no one can definitively say when quantum computers will reach the point of defeating RSA and ECC, many estimates place that date in the next 10 or 15 years,” Mr Callan tells The Independent.

“Our modern systems of finance, commerce, communication, transportation, manufacturing, energy, government, and healthcare will for all intents and purposes cease to function.”

Beyond crippling governments, economies and critical infrastructure, some believe the arrival of quantum computers could also herald the end of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.

The technological foundations of bitcoin rely on an advanced form of cryptography that protects the underlying blockchain network from being hacked. The risk posed by quantum computers is that their power could theoretically render such protection impotent.

Cloud Computing 2021

Cloud computing, which underpinned the world’s economy, global supply chains and remote workforces during the coronavirus pandemic, will continue to be an essential target for organizations looking for increased scalability, business continuity and cost efficiency in 2021.

“The effects of COVID-19 will linger throughout 2021, as businesses will look to lay a foundation for increased agility,” said Dustin Milberg, field chief technology officer for cloud services at InterVision, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based IT service provider and AWS Premier Consulting Partner. “Cloud will take a key focus in this goal, given its benefits of improved accessibility, scalability and flexibility.”

But those companies who view cloud as a journey and not a destination will see more success, according to Milberg.

“This is because simply ‘getting to the cloud’ doesn’t automatically mean you’ll see improved performance and spending,” he said. “Instead, cloud is an iterative process of optimization and creating security by design to match your company’s goals, both now and in the long term.”

Enterprises’ technology needs have increased in complexity over the past year, as workplaces quickly became decentralized during the pandemic, with remote workers across the globe, noted Steve Miller-Jones, vice president of edge strategy and solution architecture at Limelight Networks, a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based content delivery network (CDN) service provider.

“At the same time, exciting new technologies are making it easier to instantly generate, process and analyze data for better business performance,” he said. “These operational demands are shifting how businesses leverage cloud computing.”  TO READ ENTIRE ARTICLE BY DONNA GOODISON

DOCTOR Who?

Doctor Who is a British science fiction television program produced by the BBC since 1963. The program depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "the Doctor", an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilizations and helps people in need.

The show is a significant part of British popular culture, and elsewhere it has gained a cult following. It has influenced generations of British television professionals, many of whom grew up watching the series. The program originally ran from 1963 to 1989. There was an unsuccessful attempt to revive regular production in 1996 with a backdoor pilot, in the form of a television film titled Doctor Who. The program was relaunched in 2005, and since then has been produced in-house by BBC Wales in Cardiff. Doctor Who has also spawned numerous spin-offs, including comic books, films, novels, audio dramas, and the television series Torchwood (2006–2011), The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007–2011), K-9 (2009–2010), and Class (2016), and has been the subject of many parodies and references in popular culture.

Beginning with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor, and in 2017 Jodie Whittaker became the first woman to play the role. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally. Each actor's portrayal is unique, but all represent stages in the life of the same character, and together, they form a single lifetime with a single narrative. The time-travelling feature of the plot means that different incarnations of the Doctor occasionally meet.

Quantum Computing

Quantum computing is the use of quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement to perform computation. Computers that perform quantum computations are known as quantum computers. :I-5 Quantum computers are believed to be able to solve certain computational problems, such as integer factorization (which underlies RSA encryption), substantially faster than classical computers. The study of quantum computing is a subfield of quantum information science.

Quantum computing began in the early 1980s, when physicist Paul Benioff proposed a quantum mechanical model of the Turing machine.  Richard Feynman and Yuri Manin later suggested that a quantum computer had the potential to simulate things that a classical computer could not.  In 1994, Peter Shor developed a quantum algorithm for factoring integers that had the potential to decrypt RSA-encrypted communications.  Despite ongoing experimental progress since the late 1990s, most researchers believe that "fault-tolerant quantum computing [is] still a rather distant dream."   In recent years, investment into quantum computing research has increased in both the public and private sector.  On 23 October 2019, Google AI, in partnership with the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), claimed to have performed a quantum computation that is infeasible on any classical computer.

There are several models of quantum computers (or rather, quantum computing systems), including the quantum circuit model, quantum Turing machine, adiabatic quantum computer, one-way quantum computer, and various quantum cellular automata. The most widely used model is the quantum circuit. Quantum circuits are based on the quantum bit, or "qubit", which is somewhat analogous to the bit in classical computation. Qubits can be in a 1 or 0 quantum state, or they can be in a superposition of the 1 and 0 states. However, when qubits are measured the result of the measurement is always either a 0 or a 1; the probabilities of these two outcomes depend on the quantum state that the qubits were in immediately prior to the measurement.

Progress towards building a physical quantum computer focuses on technologies such as transmons, ion traps and topological quantum computers, which aim to create high-quality qubits. :2–13 These qubits may be designed differently, depending on the full quantum computer's computing model, whether quantum logic gates, quantum annealing, or adiabatic quantum computation. There are currently a number of significant obstacles in the way of constructing useful quantum computers. In particular, it is difficult to maintain the quantum states of qubits as they suffer from quantum decoherence and state fidelity. Quantum computers therefore require error correction.

Dead Sea Scrolls: You May Not Know

1. Teenage shepherds accidentally stumbled upon the first set of Dead Sea Scrolls.

In late 1946 or early 1947, Bedouin teenagers were tending their goats and sheep near the ancient settlement of Qumran, located on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea in what is now known as the West Bank. One of the young shepherds tossed a rock into an opening on the side of a cliff and was surprised to hear a shattering sound. He and his companions later entered the cave and found a collection of large clay jars, seven of which contained leather and papyrus scrolls. An antiquities dealer bought the cache, which ultimately ended up in the hands of various scholars who estimated that the texts were upwards of 2,000 years old. After word of the discovery got out, Bedouin treasure hunters and archaeologists unearthed tens of thousands of additional scroll fragments from 10 nearby caves; together they make up between 800 and 900 manuscripts.

2. Some of the Dead Sea Scrolls were sold in the classifieds section.

Athanasius Yeshue Samuel, a Syrian Orthodox archbishop of Jerusalem, bought four of the original Dead Sea Scrolls from a cobbler who dabbled in antiquities, paying less than $100. When the Arab-Israeli War broke out in 1948, Samuel traveled to the United States and unsuccessfully offered them to a number of universities, including Yale. Finally, in 1954, he placed an advertisement in the Wall Street Journal—under the category “Miscellaneous Items for Sale”’—that read: “Biblical Manuscripts dating back to at least 200 B.C. are for sale. This would be an ideal gift to an educational or religious institution by an individual or group.” Israeli archaeologist Yigael Yadin, whose father had obtained the other three scrolls from the initial collection in 1947, secretly negotiated their purchase on behalf of the newly established State of Israel. Unfortunately for Samuel, much of the $250,000 he received went to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service since the bill of sale had not been properly drawn up.

3. Nobody knows for sure who wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The origin of the Dead Sea Scrolls, which were written between 150 B.C. and 70 A.D., remains the subject of scholarly debate to this day. According to the prevailing theory, they are the work of a Jewish population that inhabited Qumran until Roman troops destroyed the settlement around 70 A.D. These Jews are thought to have belonged to a devout, ascetic and communal sect called the Essenes, one of four distinct Jewish groups living in Judaea before and during the Roman era. Proponents of this hypothesis note similarities between the traditions outlined in the Community Rule—a scroll detailing the laws of an unnamed Jewish sect—and the Roman historian Flavius Josephus’ description of Essene rituals. Archaeological evidence from Qumran, including the ruins of Jewish ritual baths, also suggests the site was once home to observant Jews. Some scholars have credited other groups with producing the scrolls, including early Christians and Jews from Jerusalem who passed through Qumran while fleeing the Romans.

4. Almost all of the Hebrew Bible is represented in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The Dead Sea Scrolls include fragments from every book of the Old Testament except for the Book of Esther. Scholars have speculated that traces of this missing book, which recounts the story of the eponymous Jewish queen of Persia, either disintegrated over time or have yet to be uncovered. Others have proposed that Esther was not part of the Essenes’ canon or that the sect did not celebrate Purim, the festive holiday based on the book. The only complete book of the Hebrew Bible preserved among the manuscripts from Qumran is Isaiah; this copy, dated to the first century B.C., is considered the earliest Old Testament manuscript still in existence. Along with biblical texts, the scrolls include documents about sectarian regulations, such as the Community Rule, and religious writings that do not appear in the Old Testament.

5. Hebrew is not the only language of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The majority of the Dead Sea Scrolls are in Hebrew, with some fragments written in the ancient paleo-Hebrew alphabet thought to have fallen out of use in the fifth century B.C. But others are in Aramaic, the language spoken by many Jews—including, most likely, Jesus—between the sixth century B.C. and the siege of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. In addition, several texts feature translations of the Hebrew Bible into Greek, which some Jews used instead of or in addition to Hebrew at the time of the scrolls’ creation.

6. The Dead Sea Scrolls include a guide to hidden treasure.

One of the most intriguing manuscripts from Qumran is the Copper Scroll, a sort of ancient treasure map that lists dozens of gold and silver caches. While the other texts are written in ink on parchment or animal skins, this curious document features Hebrew and Greek letters chiseled onto metal sheets—perhaps, as some have theorized, to better withstand the passage of time. Using an unconventional vocabulary and odd spelling, the Copper Scroll describes 64 underground hiding places around Israel that purportedly contain riches stashed for safekeeping. None of these hoards have been recovered, possibly because the Romans pillaged Judaea during the first century A.D. According to various hypotheses, the treasure belonged to local Essenes, was spirited out of the Second Temple before its destruction or never existed to begin with.      SOURCE: HISTORY.com, Jennie Cohen

Monday -- Dead Sea Scrolls

The Dead Sea Scrolls (also the Qumran Caves Scrolls) are ancient Jewish religious manuscripts that were found in the Qumran Caves in the Judaean Desert, near Ein Feshkha on the northern shore of the Dead Sea in the West Bank. Scholarly consensus dates these scrolls from the last three centuries BCE and the first century CE. The texts have great historical, religious, and linguistic significance because they include the second-oldest known surviving manuscripts of works later included in the Hebrew Bible canon, along with deuterocanonical and extra-biblical manuscripts which preserve evidence of the diversity of religious thought in late Second Temple Judaism. Almost all of the Dead Sea Scrolls are held by the state of Israel in the Shrine of the Book on the grounds of the Israel Museum, but ownership of the scrolls is disputed by Jordan and Palestine.

Many thousands of written fragments have been discovered in the Dead Sea area. They represent the remnants of larger manuscripts damaged by natural causes or through human interference, with the vast majority holding only small scraps of text. However, a small number of well-preserved, almost intact manuscripts have survived – fewer than a dozen among those from the Qumran Caves. Researchers have assembled a collection of 981 different manuscripts – discovered in 1946/47 and in 1956 – from 11 caves. The 11 Qumran Caves lie in the immediate vicinity of the Hellenistic-period Jewish settlement at Khirbet Qumran in the eastern Judaean Desert, in the West Bank. The caves are located about one mile (1.6 kilometres) west of the northwest shore of the Dead Sea, whence they derive their name. Scholarly consensus dates the Qumran Caves Scrolls from the last three centuries BCE and the first century CE. Bronze coins found at the same sites form a series beginning with John Hyrcanus (in office 135–104 BCE) and continuing until the period of the First Jewish–Roman War (66–73 CE), supporting the radiocarbon and paleographic dating of the scrolls.

In the larger sense, the Dead Sea Scrolls include manuscripts from additional Judaean Desert sites, dated as early as the 8th century BCE and as late as the 11th century CE.  SOURCE:  Wikipedia

China BANS BBC

British television channel BBC World News has been barred from airing in China, the National Radio and Television Administration said on Friday, a week after the United Kingdom’s media regulator revoked Chinese state-owned broadcaster China Global Television Network’s (CGTN).

In a statement issued on the stroke of the Lunar New Year, the administration said an investigation found BBC World News’ China-related reports had “seriously violated” regulations, including that news should be “truthful and fair,” had harmed China’s national interests and undermined national unity.

The channel, therefore, does not meet requirements for foreign channels broadcasting in China and its application to air for another year will not be accepted, it added.

English-language BBC World News is not included in most TV channel packages in China but is available in some hotels and residences.

In a statement, the BBC said it was “disappointed” by the decision.

“We are disappointed that the Chinese authorities have decided to take this course of action,” a BBC spokeswoman said.

“The BBC is the world’s most trusted international news broadcaster and reports on stories from around the world fairly, impartially and without fear or favour.”  SOURCE:  ALJAZEERA

UFO's in NC

 FOX NEWS:  David Aaro

A mysterious light cluster was spotted in the night sky near Charlotte, N.C., over the weekend, leading to a debate on social media over the possible presence of UFOs in the area, according to a report.

The strange lights were seen floating over the state's Indian Trail community and subsequently posted on the "What’s Up Indian Trail?" community Facebook page.

UFO DOCUMENTS RELEASED BY CIA ARE 'REAL-LIFE X-FILES,' EXPERT SAYS

"Anyone know what these lights were tonight?" Alisa Homewood remarked, according to The Charlotte Observer. "No sound at all. They flickered like lanterns, but followed the same exact path up until they disappeared which was odd."

"My initial thought when I saw the lights was it was the helicopters in the distance, but as the lights got closer there was no sound. Then they went straight up into the sky and disappeared. No smoke, no debris," she continued.

A few hundred people have since reacted to her post on the community page, offering different opinions for the odd phenomenon, ranging from UFOs to a SpaceX rocket, according to the paper.

One of her photos captured a glowing trio of blue lights, which Homewood apparently could not explain.

2020: A YEAR OF UFO NEWS ALMOST TOO STRANGE TO BELIEVE

"The blue light I didn’t notice until after I took the pictures. In the sky it did not look blue, it looked like a group of bright lights," she said, according to Charlotte Observer reporter, Mark Price. "I thought it was odd though, that a few people have seen and photographed that same blue-ish grouping of lights."

COMMENT:  no one seems to want to take the sightings seriously or if they do take the sightings seriously they do not want to believe that ALIENS are behind it or that ALIENS are really real...  they do not want to leave their comfort zone of being in control of life around them...  at least to some extent...

It is ok to see UFO's and have the government to admit that there are actually UFO's but it is another thing to actually believe that alien beings are piloting those UFO's and that we could possibly confront a species of life that is SUPERIOR to us, both mentally and physically.

Just China

According to SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST...

In his first order of the new year to the country’s armed forces, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the need for “full-time combat readiness” and said the People’s Liberation Army must use frontline frictions to polish troop capabilities.  Xi, who also chairs China’s  Central Military Commission (CMC), the top command body, said the PLA must be ready to “act at any second” as the country’s armed forces kicked off the year’s military training and exercises on Monday.

The Average American

The real median personal income in the US in 2019 is $35,977.

About 34.1% of Americans earn an annual salary of over $100,000. Around 15.5% of the population earns between $100,000 and $149,999; about 8.3% of the population earns between $150,000 and $199,999; and about 10.3% of the population earn over $200,000.       (Source: Statista)

According to PEW Research, middle-class Americans are those who have an annual income that is two-thirds to double the national salary average, adjusted for household size and cost of living. For example, for a family of three, the middle-class income can be anywhere between $40,100 and $120,400.
In another research, the range for a middle-class household of three is between $53,413 and $106,827.     (Source: PEW Research Center, US News)

Questions:
  1. Are you Middle Class?
  2. Are you wealthy?
  3. What has our Federal Government done for you?
  4. What should our Federal Government do for you?
  5. Do you rely on the Government or on yourself?
  6. Where do you live?
  7. What is your level of education?
  8. Are you a Veteran?
  9. Are you married?
  10. Do you have children living with you?
  11. Can you relocate?
  12. What is your age?
  13. How much debt do you have?
  14. Do you have reliable transportation?
Oftentimes, we are VICTIMS of our own sets of circumstances and while we may want a better life, our current situation prevents us from getting one.
For example:
  • high school education only
  • do not have reliable transportation
  • Married with 3 children
  • $25,000 in debt
  • cannot relocate
  • not a Veteran
AND SO...
you expect OUR GOVERNMENT to help you out...  Give you free education.  Give you free health care.  Give you money to pay off your debt.  Help you with relocation expenses.  Help you with reliable transportation...

BUT...
your basic attitude has not changed....
  • will you actually retain anything from free college education?
  • do you have the academic foundation for free college education?
  • will you get back into debt?
  • do you have a strong work ethic?

Immigration: Biden's Plan

When President Joe Biden unveiled an immigration bill on the first day in office, he sent a signal to advocates, the Democratic base, and Congress that the issue was a top priority for him.

But even as the president and Democrats on the Hill begin the heavy lift of turning a priority into law, the White House is weighing taking a secondary path: doing it piece by piece.

Multiple sources close to the administration said they expect the White House will let Congress take the lead on forging reform — even though Biden introduced his own bill. The White House will provide guidance. And, indeed, chief of staff Ron Klain and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan are said to be hands-on and “feel a responsibility and an ownership” over the immigration push already, according to one of the sources close to the White House.

But the main objective is progress. And if that means moving components of reform through Congress one at a time, or in smaller packages, Biden will be fine with that, two sources close to the White House said.

“It's not an all-or-nothing approach,” said one source with knowledge of the White House discussions. “We aren’t saying you have to pass the Biden bill. But we are saying this is what we want to do and we are planning to move legalization forward.”

Biden’s immigration plan was an aggressive opening salvo embraced by the base, while Republicans, not surprisingly, gave it a cool reception. Some on the Hill privately questioned if Biden was simply checking a box to appease activists. Immigrant advocates, for their part, say they have no reason to believe — at this point — that Biden’s bill is ceremonial. But they warn that if substantial immigration reforms don’t reach his desk by the end of the year, Democrats and Biden would not only face an uproar from Dreamers and grassroots organizers — but the party could suffer politically as well.
